81^st Annual Convention

Lady Jennifer and I are very excited to have you join us in Alexandria, VA, for the 81^st Annual Convention of the International Association Legions of Honor. This year we have chosen the Hilton Mark Center for our gathering. The location of the Hilton presents us with the opportunity to enjoy many of the Nation’s Capitol’s sights and events as well as those in Alexandria, VA. The Necrology Service will take place at the George Washington Masonic Memorial and all of the rest of our festivities will be held at the Hilton facility. We would like to highlight that the Hilton offers free shuttle service to and from the hotel to Reagan National Airport as well as the King Street Metro station. From King Street you can hop the metro into Washington DC or take the free trolley down King Street to Old Town, Alexandria – a colonial era town center on the Potomac River with excellent restaurants, shopping and galleries. From Old Town, you can also take the water taxi across the Potomac River to the new Gaylord National Harbor - http://www.gaylordhotels.com/gaylord-national/.

For you golfers (or those who think you are), I will be hosting a golf tournament on Wednesday, March 21, 2012. The course is still to be determined but will be in close proximity of the hotel, so bring your clubs and let’s have a wonderful day on the greens!

Thursday night’s Welcome Party will be “A Picnic on the Potomac”. Put on your best Picnic attire and come ready to enjoy a relaxing evening to kick off our week of celebration with all our Legion friends. And like any good picnic, watch out for the ants!

“A Cherry Blossom Luncheon” has been arranged for the ladies on Friday, please pack your prettiest spring dress (Easter bonnets optional) and join Lady Jennifer and the rest of the International ladies as we celebrate one of Washington DC’s highlights of spring.

Saturday night will bring the conclusion to our year and the beginning of another with the Installation Banquet. Throughout the week, you will have time to visit the museums and galleries of downtown Washington, visit Arlington Cemetery, or just enjoy the amenities of the Hilton and take time to relax and visit with your Legion friends.
